Many people come to Blairbeg to relax and just enjoy the peace and quiet of the immediate surroundings. However, it can also serve as a centre for exploring Highland Perthshire, Royal Deeside and the Angus Glens. It is situated on the edge of the Cairngorm National Park.
Pitlochry and the A9 giving access to Speyside and the north is only 25 miles away. The Festival Theatre at Pitlochry has a varied programme throughout the year. Braemar is 20 miles to the north and is the gateway to Deeside and its many connections with the Royal Family. The world famous Braemar Gathering is held on the first Saturday of September every year and is a chance to enjoy one of the oldest traditional Highland Games. Similar events at Ballater, Glenisla, Kirkmichael and Strathdon are a chance to experience the massed pipe bands, and traditional sports such as tossing the caber, throwing the hammer and putting the shot.
 
Balmoral , the royal family’s estate, dominates this area and you can follow in the footsteps of Queen Victoria by visiting many attractions in the area such as the beautiful Loch Muick and the Railway Station at Ballater.
To the east is Angus and the stunning trio of Glen Clova, Glen Prosen and Glen Doll. This is an area which can be enjoyed through all the seasons, and has many wonderful walks. Kiriemuir, is the birthplace of Peter Pan creator J.M. Barrie. His house has been restored by the National Trust for Scotland and incorporates a museum.
Many sporting activities are available in the area surrounding Blairbeg. Fishing, golf, hillwalking, skiing at Glenshee, horseriding at Kirkmichael, Glenmarkie and Kirriemuir, and dinghy sailing at Glenisla. Blairbeg is situated on the Cateran Trial, a 63 mile long distance path following the route of the cattle thieves. You only have to step out the front door to have an area where walking and cycling can be enjoyed in the beautiful, invigorating highland landscape. The peace and tranquillity of the area are truly unique.
 
Fishing is possible on the River Tay, and its tributaries, the Isla, the Ericht and the Blackwater. There are also numerous small lochs in the area. Details can be obtained locally. There are many superb golf courses in the area, Rosemount, Blairgowrie, Alyth and Strathmore.
Blairgowrie – the berry capital of Scotland – is a convenient shopping town situated on the River Ericht. A walking Festival is held here at the end of September each year. Or head out to Dunkeld along the Five Lochs Road and trace Beartrix Potter’s early links with this area rich in wildlife. Enjoy some of Europe’s most remarkable trees and woodlands in Perthshire’s Big Tree Country.
